Content Area Methodology Courses

METHODS COURSES: For adding a Teaching or Content Area to an existing Multiple or Single Subject Credential. The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing allows California credentialed K-12 teachers to obtain an additional credential, either multiple subject or single subject, without completing the full professional preparation program for that credential. Among those requirements, two methodology courses are required. For additional information, and full list of requirements, please review the CTC leaflet (cl621a).

ADDING A MULTIPLE SUBJECT CREDENTIAL TO AN EXISTING SINGLE SUBJECT CREDENTIAL OR ADDING A TEACHING CONTENT AREA TO SINGLE SUBJECT

A teacher who seeks to add the multiple subject (elementary) to their existing credential is required to complete one teaching methods course for elementary subject areas (other than reading) and a separate methods course for teaching beginning readers along with other requirements as listed on the CTC website.

EDU102 Teaching & Learning: Reading and Literacy:

This course is designed to provide students with current strategies for literacy instruction. Students will identify strategies for successful reading, the Seven Pillars of Reading Instruction, the role of oral language in reading success, phonics, fluency, assessment, and the role of writing in reading success

This online course fulfills the Developing English Language Skills requirement for multiple subject teachers.

EDU104 Multiple Subject Methods:

This course explores methods of teaching multiple subjects such as Visual and Performing Arts, Science, History, Social Studies, and Physical Education. Throughout this course, students will develop a teacher toolbox filled with various instructional strategies; both subject-specific and non-subject-specific. Additionally, students will create unit plans that align with state standards.

This online course fulfills the  teaching in a self-contained classroom, excluding the methods of teaching reading requirement for multiple subject teachers.

***Once a teacher has met all requirements for adding a teaching or content area to an existing credential, he/she applies directly to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for the additional certification. We will supply you with transcripts. See CTC leaflet CL-621A

Cost for these two courses: $1,000
