Education Specialist Intern Program
Earn your credential while you teach!
Eligibility: Phase 1 ***Please note: you can be accepted into the preservice program prior to meeting all requirements
To be eligible for acceptance into the KCTIP, a candidate must have:
- Employment
Current employment* in an Education Specialist position
*Mild to Moderate Support Needs (MMSN)
You may enroll in our summer preservice classes while looking for employment but, must have proof of employment to officially be enrolled in the program

Program Prerequisites
- Bachelor’s Degree / Basic Skills Requirement

must be submitted electronically to

- Certificate of Clearance
After completion of the Livescan fingerprinting process (41-LS),
you can apply for a Certificate of Clearance

- US Constitution
Official transcripts will show proof of completion for this requirement.
If not, you may take a test to complete this requirement at
- Subject Matter Competency
Candidates must demonstrate subject matter competency by completing ONE of the following:
Passing score on CSET: Multiple Subject or Single Subject or
Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies
or Subject Matter Preparation Program
or Equivalent Course Work/Combination/Program (See Program Policies: Equivalent Credits for more details)
Acceptance: Phase 1
Once all of the above items (#1-6) have been completed and submitted with the online application, candidates will receive access to the online portal containing the preservice coursework. Candidates are welcome into preservice prior to completion of above items if they can show proof of intent to complete above requirements. Preservice courses are all online and cost $500
Acceptance: Phase 2
Candidates must complete preservice coursework with a passing grade. After completion of courses, candidates will qualify for a California District Intern Credential. This credential will authorize them to teach for two years, while enrolled in the Teacher Intern Program.
Failure to Complete
If a candidate fails to complete both phases 1 and 2 by August 1st, employment and program eligibility will be in jeopardy or even terminated. Summer coursework will remain fulfilled if the candidate enters the program the following year due to incomplete phases.
