Preschool Rocks: A Note from the Director!

My educational philosophy is based on the belief that every student is unique, has an inherent right to succeed, and with appropriate academic support and nurturing in a loving, motivating, and safe environment will learn to the best of his or her potential. I believe in instilling in students the love of learning through an inquiry approach curriculum that is integrated with the arts and movement, a balanced educational experience that develops cognitive, creative, and expressive skills, strengthens problem-solving abilities, and promotes positive social interactions. These approaches, I believe, are keystones to helping prepare intelligent and academically well-rounded college bound students.

It’s my earnest desire to help all the students of the King-Chavez Primary Academy and Preschool to realize their full potential by providing them with the very best educational preparation that will enable them to attend any university of their choice.

My leadership philosophy is founded on shared vision, consensus building, and continuous improvement.  The following four questions serve as my compass: what is our reason for existing, how will we fulfill our purpose, what challenges must we overcome, and how can we measure our progress? Implementation of this philosophy begins with the establishment of positive work relationships based on shared values and vision. The vision unites the team and keeps everyone focused on why we exist. Consensus building promotes participation, ownership, and commitment.  The focus on continued improvement ensures steady progress and ultimate achievement. My ongoing endeavor is to influence by communicating a “we can do” attitude so that everyone believes in their ability to make a difference.

I believe that teachers are the single most important factor in student achievement and are therefore individually assisted with coaching to apply the most effective instructional strategies in their classrooms for continual improvement.  My decision to become a principal was and is for the sole purpose of helping teachers become the very best educators they can be so that together we may touch many young lives for their good and the good of the whole community.

Parent involvement is critical to student achievement; I therefore encourage the highest levels of parent participation. I know that parents have a wealth of experiences and connections to be tapped. Their connectivity to the community is also an asset. The link for success, I found is creating innovative win-win scenarios between the family, community, and the school which results from visionary communication and the collaboration of resources that have mutual benefit for all stakeholders.

I look forward to a working with the King/Chavez School Community and to having a wonderful 2012-2013 school year.
