My name is Matthew Mason, and I am excited to serve as the Principal at King-Chavez Preparatory Academy. My calling has always been in the field of education and serving others. This journey began at Salisbury University, where I was very fortunate to graduate from the Seidel School of Education, a Maryland University of National Distinction. While working, I continued my education by attending the University of San Diego where I received my Crosscultural, Language, and Academic Development Certificate. In addition to receiving my CLAD certificate at USD, I successfully completed a series of graduate courses on Restorative Practices. As a lifelong learner, I continued my education and received my Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. Over the course of 19 years serving as an educator, I have enjoyed all of my work experiences. Prior to working at King-Chavez, I was a teacher in the state of Maryland and in Lemon Grove, CA. In 2005, I began my career with King-Chavez Athletics Academy where I served as the lead 5th grade teacher for 6 years. In the summer of 2011, I transitioned to King-Chavez Community High School where I served for 4 years as the Vice Principal. During the summer of 2015, I had the opportunity to transition to King-Chavez Preparatory Academy where I served as the Assistant Principal for 7 years. My educational background, as well as my 20 years of work experience, have both imbued me with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to be a successful educational leader. As the Principal at KC Prep, I am very excited to empower our middle school students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to be productive citizens in a global society.
