The King-Chavez English Language Development program seeks to accelerate English oral and written language acquisition in order to ameliorate academic achievement. ELD groups will be determined through CELDT scores and input from classroom teachers and ELD specialists. These groups will be fluid, since that is a core component of any successful data-driven program.
Physical Education is an important piece of the KCAA program as we believe in creating healthy minds and bodies. Our students will be required to participate in PE 2 times a week for 40 minutes. All students are expected to participate in P.E.
Here at King-Chavez we use are art time to become creative problem solvers and develop a strong love of the arts. This year we will have a blast exploring canvas painting, oil pastel, ceramics, mosaics and more.
King-Chávez Guided Reading is a differentiated, flexible Language Arts support program with a focus on literacy. It targets children at their instructional levels in order to accelerate fluency and reading comprehension. Students also learn strategies and skills to complement their grade-level ELA curriculum.
ASAP before and after school program:
The ASAP program allows the opportunity for all students’ to participate in before and afterschool activities and it seeks to meet students’ needs in three critical areas: Academics, Arts, and Athletics.Session 1 of ASAP runs from October-December, and it provides enrichment and intervention opportunities before school as well as after school. Saturday school is also a core part of the increased learning time which totals an additional 490 hours of instruction time per school year. Before-school ASAP utilizes 4 areas: a literacy room, a fitness arcade, a technology lab, and a general-purpose educational lab. Before-school ASAP benefits 110 students by providing 48 total program hours of increased learning from October-December.
At King Chavez, we use John Wooden's book Inch and miles: The Journey to Success to teach Charachter Education throughout the school year.
Edmodo provides teachers and students a secure place to connect and collaborate, share content and educational applications, and access homework, grades, class discussions and notifications.
Study Island offers rigorous content built from the California Content Standards and Common Core Standards to prepare for the CST.
